MONROE COUNTY EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT

Emergency Management means the preparation for and the coordination of all emergency functions other than functions for which military forces or other federal agencies are primarily responsible for to prevent, minimize and repair injury and damage resulting from disasters.

YOUTH SERVICES BUREAU OF MONROE COUNTY

The Youth Services Bureau operates Safe Place, a network of community locations where at-risk youth can seek immediate help. Trained volunteers assist with crisis resolution and transportation to shelter if needed.

HOOSIER HILLS CAREER CENTER

Hoosier Hills Career Center prepares students for careers, college, and beyond through career-focused training, free dual credits, and workforce readiness programs.

IVY TECH COMMUNITY COLLEGE

Ivy Tech offers affordable, accessible education, helping students gain career-ready skills or transfer to four-year universities to complete bachelor’s degrees.

AREA 10 AGENCY ON AGING

Area 10 supports seniors, persons with disabilities, and caregivers in Monroe and Owen Counties through resources, solutions, and connections to enhance independence and well-being.

HOOSIER BURN CAMP

Hoosier Burn Camp provides summer camp experiences and life skills programs for child burn survivors, helping them heal, grow, and build confidence from childhood to adulthood.

SAFE HAVEN BABY BOX

A Baby Box, provided under the Safe Haven Law, allows mothers in crisis to safely, securely, and anonymously surrender their newborns. Installed in an exterior wall of designated fire stations or hospitals, it features a locking exterior door and an interior door for staff to retrieve the infant. A Baby Box is available at Station 25.

UNITED STATES DEPARTMENT OF VETERAN AFFAIRS

Lethal means, such as firearms, medications, and sharp objects, can become deadly during a suicidal crisis, especially when easily accessible. Nearly 70% of Veteran suicides involve firearms (Dept. of Veteran Affairs, 2018). Increasing time and distance from these items can significantly reduce suicide risk and save lives. Simple steps can help protect yourself and your loved ones.

MONROE COUNTY SUICIDE PREVENTION COALITION

The Monroe County Suicide Prevention Coalition is dedicated to understanding and preventing suicide through research, education, and advocacy, and to reaching out to people at risk and those impacted by suicide.

DOMESTIC VIOLENCE TASK FORCE

The Coalition is committed to improving our community's response to domestic violence issues through communication and coordination of services. This includes an annual Domestic Violence Awareness Conference held in November and the implementation and monitoring of an audit of our community’s response to domestic violence.

COMMUNITY HEALTH IMPROVEMENT PLAN (CHIP)

CHIP uses data from the Community Health Assessment (CHA) to identify priority issues, develop and implement strategies for action, and establish accountability to ensure measurable health improvement. The CHIP process directly engages with members of the community to ensure that the public health needs of the community are addressed.

MENTAL HEALTH AMERICA

Mental Health America of Monroe County promotes mental health and supports individuals and families through education, support groups, and resource connections. We focus on mental health awareness, prevention, and fostering innovation in policy, research, and services.

Community Risk Reduction (CRR) focuses on identifying, mitigating, and reducing risks to ensure a safer community. This includes partnerships, specialized programs, and outreach efforts to improve public safety, emergency preparedness, and community resilience. Our key engagements and partnerships are listed below.

MONROE COUNTY SOLID WASTE DISTRICT

The Monroe County Solid Waste District provides recycling, hazardous waste management, and yard waste services to promote environmental sustainability and proper waste disposal.

INDIANA DEPARTMENT OF HOMELAND SECURITY (IDHS)

IDHS leads Indiana’s emergency planning, first responder training, and fire safety enforcement, while coordinating statewide response to large-scale emergencies.

INDIANA STATE FIRE MARSHALL

The State Fire Marshal oversees fire prevention, inspections, investigations, and training to ensure public safety and support emergency services.

UNITED STATES FIRE ADMINISTRATION (USFA)

USFA enhances fire and emergency medical services nationwide by providing training, education, and resources to strengthen preparedness and response.

INDIANA TASK FORCE ONE

Indiana Task Force One is an elite search and rescue team trained to deploy nationwide for disaster response, providing highly skilled personnel and advanced equipment.

FEDERAL EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT AGENCY

FEMA leads national disaster response and recovery efforts, helping communities prepare for, mitigate, and recover from emergencies and disasters.

CHILD PROTECTIVE SERVICES

CPCS connects families to resources that strengthen the home and prevent child abuse and neglect through case management, community support, and collaboration with local agencies.

INDIANA FIRE CHIEF'S ASSOCIATION (IFCA)

The Indiana Fire Chief's Association represents fire chiefs and fire service leaders in Indiana. It focuses on leadership, professional development, and improving fire safety and emergency response. The IFCA also advocates for state-level policy changes and provides networking and training opportunities.

INTERNATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF FIRE CHIEFS

The IAFC is a global organization for fire service leaders, promoting leadership, education, and innovation in fire and emergency services. It offers resources, training, and advocacy to improve fire department operations and public safety.

INTERNATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF FIREFIGHTERS

The IAFF is a labor union for professional firefighters, paramedics, and EMS workers in the U.S. and Canada. It advocates for better working conditions, wages, and safety while promoting fire prevention and public safety.
