MISSION AND VISION

The Monroe Fire Protection District (MFPD) is dedicated to protecting the lives, property, and environment of our communities from the adverse effects of fire, environmental, and sudden medical emergencies.

It is the vision of the Monroe Fire Protection District to be recognized as a top public service organization by ensuring our firefighters are highly trained, motivated, physically fit, compassionate, and diversified in order to safely exceed our citizens’ expectations and be responsible stewards for, and members of, our community.

OUR HISTORY

The Monroe Fire Protection District was formed through a series of collaborative efforts to enhance fire and emergency services across Monroe County. Starting as the Perry Township Volunteer Fire Department in 1970, it merged with Clear Creek Township in 1987 to create the Perry Clear Creek Fire Protection District. In 2019, Indian Creek Township joined, prompting a rebranding as the Monroe Fire Protection District. Changes in state law then allowed additional townships, including Van Buren, Bloomington, Benton, and Washington, to join, creating a consolidated district through the years of 2021 and 2022. Today, the Monroe Fire Protection District proudly serves nine of Monroe County’s eleven townships, including contract services to Salt and Polk Townships, protecting nearly 330 square miles with unified, high-quality emergency services.

OUR SERVICES

The Monroe Fire Protection District proudly serves the community with a team of 108+ personnel, including full-time, part-time, and substitute staff. Our dedicated firefighters operate with full-time, part-time, and volunteer personnel, ensuring round-the-clock coverage.

We operate from seven fire stations, with an eighth station co-staffed with Ellettsville Fire Department. Additionally, a ninth station is under construction and scheduled for completion by late spring/early summer 2025. Together, these stations allow us to cover over 300 square miles, delivering essential emergency services to our community.
